The ethics statements of the collection of articles “History: Sources and People” are based on the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) . Authors, reviewers, and editors agree to follow these standards and ensure publishing original high-quality academic works. No plagiarism, data falsification or inappropriate authorship credit is allowed. All submitted articles are checked for originality and compliance with previous publications.

The collection of articles “History: Sources and People” state that, in order to be qualified for authorship of a manuscript, you should meet the following criteria:
1) Substantially contribute to the conception of the research, the analysis of data, or the interpretation of research findings;
2) Provide final approval of the version of the manuscript to be published;
3) Accept responsibility for all aspects of the work, ensuring that any concerns related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.
The corresponding author is responsible for serving as the primary liaison between the editorial team and the co-authors. They must ensure that all co-authors are adequately informed and appropriately involved in key decisions related to the manuscript’s submission and publication process. The editorial office reserves the right to request verification that all listed authors fulfil the established criteria for authorship.

For all articles published in the collection of articles “History: Sources and People”, copyright is retained by the authors. The article can be reused and cited provided that the original published version is referenced.

Submission Checklist

1. Read Aims and Scope section and make sure that the article is suitable for the collection of articles “History: Sources and People”;
2. Prepare your manuscript in Microsoft Word or similar format;
3. Make sure you follow Article Layout guidelines;
4. By submitting your manuscript, you agree with Publication Ethics standards, Authorship, and Copyright statement of the collection of articles “History: Sources and People”;
5. Ensure that all authors of the research have approved the content of the submitted manuscript and acquainted the Instructions for Authors.

Author guidelines

Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word or similar format in English or Latvian following the Article Layout guidelines.

Article Processing Charge
There is no article processing or publication charge.

Manuscript Revision
All submitted manuscripts are anonymized and peer-reviewed by at least two reviewers. After receiving the reviews, the authors revise their articles in accordance with the comments of the reviewers. The final decision on publication of articles is made by the editor-in-chief.

The following criteria are used to review the submitted manuscripts:
1. Does the title of the article clearly reflect its content?
2. Does the abstract include the main ideas of the article?
3. Do the keywords matches the content of the article?
4. Does the introduction reveal the aim and substantiate the relevance of the study?
5. Do the historical sources used correspond to the aim of the study?
6.  Is the research methodology explained?
7. Is the structure of the article consistent with the logic of the study?  
8. Do the conclusions of the article derive from the research?
9. Do the appropriate references are indicated in accordance with the requirements?

All manuscripts accepted for publication are subject to proof-reading by literary editor provided by the publishers. Before publication, the final version of the article is agreed with the author.

All manuscripts submitted for review are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers are expected to maintain strict confidentiality and must not share the manuscript or any part of its content with others, nor initiate direct contact with the authors without explicit authorization from the editor. Unpublished data, findings, or interpretations disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in the reviewer’s own research. Any privileged information or ideas obtained through the peer review process must be treated as confidential and must not be exploited for personal or professional gain. Similarly, the anonymity of reviewers is strictly maintained; their identities are not disclosed to authors. All communication regarding the manuscript is conducted through the editorial office, which acts as the sole intermediary between authors and reviewers.

All reviewers feel Review Form and answer the following question about the reviewed manuscript providing additional comments:
1. Does the title of the article clearly reflect its content?
2. Does the abstract include the main ideas of the article?
3. Do the keywords matches the content of the article?
4. Does the introduction reveal the aim and substantiate the relevance of the study?
5. Do the historical sources used correspond to the aim of the study?
6.  Is the research methodology explained?
7. Is the structure of the article consistent with the logic of the study?
8. Do the conclusions of the article derive from the research?
9. Do the appropriate references are indicated in accordance with the requirements?

The reviewers should provide their decision on acceptance of the reviewed manuscript by choosing one option:
(a) The Article can be accepted.
(b) The Article can be accepted with changes; the study should be returned to the author for corrections (comments).
(c) The Article cannot be accepted (comments).

The final decision on publication of articles is made by the editor-in-chief.

The collection of articles “History: Sources and People” follow the open access policy. All articles are available at Daugavpils University website free of charge. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, and link to the full texts of the articles, as well as to use them for any other legitimate objective, without the need to obtain prior permission from either the publisher or the author.
