Aim

Purpose of the study programme is to prepare highly qualified specialists with the necessary knowledge and skills, who are able and competent to take responsibility and solve highly complex crisis management issues, including situations caused by epidemics, floods and military attacks, and to develop and coordinate national and international cooperation.

During studies you will obtain

Ethics, Communication Management, Fundamentals of Psychology and Logic, Public Health, Fundamentals of Law, Organizational Theory and Management, Regulatory Development and Document Management, Civil Protection, Ecological Security, Economic Security, Human Rights, National security and comprehensive national defense, International relations and security, Social care in crisis situations, Healthcare in crisis situations, Fundamentals of military and emergency medicine, Crisis psychology and stress management, Law of armed conflicts, Genetics of human behavior, Strategic planning and resource management, Professional foreign language, Crisis management and decision-making methods, Cybersecurity, Economic resilience in the event of crisis and war, Business continuity planning, Data collection and analysis, Event identification, recording and investigation.

Study results planned

Knowledge:

  • Familiar with the specifics of national threats, possible disasters in the country and their consequences, as well as preventive, preparedness, response, emergency measures for eliminating the consequences and restoration measures in cases of disasters and various crises.
  • Familiar with the development of documentation related to civil protection.
  • Familiar with the principles and processes of management in crisis situations.

Skills:

  • Able to analytically assess the specifics of a national threat and develop a municipal civil protection plan and a facility civil protection plan.
  • Able to navigate in the types of disasters and recognize the signs of a disaster, navigate in the measures to eliminate the consequences of different types of disasters and develop a disaster management plan and manage disaster management measures.
  • Able to train and control subordinate employees.

Competencies:

  • Able to professionally and effectively apply theoretical knowledge in practice; understand the nature of internal security and civil protection of the state and its conditions; identify possible risks.
  • Able to use modern information technologies and technical means.
  • Able to organize cooperation with state institutions, local governments, enterprises, public organizations, volunteers and residents; work and communicate in a group, show understanding and tolerance towards the opinions and thoughts expressed by other people.

Having successfully graduated the programme you will be able

  • to become a professional and competitive specialist in the field of internal security and civil protection, and to work in public administration, local governments, and companies in positions related to crisis management and internal security, as well as to integrate into the labor market of Latvia and the EU in the field of internal security and civil protection;
  • to continue education at Daugavpils University or other higher education institutions in Latvia and abroad.
