Are you fascinated by natural phenomenon? Do you want to have a positive impact in life?

Physics offers exciting and rewarding careers in research, economy and society. Physics provides a wide range of opportunities in multi-disciplinary research projects, interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation processes and modern services for businesses. Physicists of the Daugavpils University intensively collaborate with researchers from different disciplines addressing a broad range of needs in our society. The Daugavpils University is also an active partner of the CERN Baltic Group and facilitates the popularization of CERN research in the region.

G. Liberta Innovative Microscopy Centre of Daugavpils University was founded in 2004, by implementing the European Union Structural Fund Project and bringing together the scientific laboratories of the Department of Physics. The author and implementer of the idea was a professor Guntis Liberts, who donated his life to science. In 2007 the centre was named in his honour.

Physics at the G. Liberta Innovative Microscopy Centre of Daugavpils University in a nutshell: advanced nanomaterials, holography, electrochemical sensors, electron microscopy, robotics, photonics and much more. Our last publications in high-quality journals are available here.

We are multi-disciplinary oriented by heart:

  • We are collaborating with biologists to explore the environmental impact of nanoparticles, specifically on plants, including at molecular level;
  • We are working together with environmental scientists to develop electrochemical multi-sensors for pollutants detection;
  • We support the conservation of nature by developing pheromone traps to attract protected species of beetles;
  • We work on robotics to support the development of machineries in the region;
  • We have all resources necessary to design holograms and ensure their mass production;
  • We work with different microscopes techniques to characterize materials;
  • We develop video-monitoring systems to study the behavior of insects;
  • and a lot more…

Our research infrastructures are state-of-the-art: find here a suitable equipment for your specific needs. Infrastructures are an integral part of the research environment at Daugavpils University: devices, equipment, data networks, databases, materials, software and related services enabling to carry out research, promote research & development collaboration, support trainings and the development of skills among research staff, and strengthen the research capacity as well as the innovation support for businesses and public bodies. In addition to researchers, students and DU staff, some part of our infrastructures are available for use by our collaboration partners.
