Abstract

The taxonomic structure of the Syrphidae of Latvia was updated taking into account modern views. The status of each species is given according to the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy. The results of the analysis of published data on the distribution of Syrphidae in Latvia are presented.
The Syrphidae fauna of Latvia is one of the most taxonomically well studied in this part of Europe. Currently, 298 species from 67 genera (4 subfamilies, 11 tribus) are registered in Latvia. Data on the Syrphidae of Latvia are given mainly for the western part of the country.
The most studied regions: Jūrmala (186 species), Rīga (177), Limbažu (127), Ādažu (121), Ventspils (76) and Tukuma (68) novads (municipality). For Kurzeme 139 species are known, Latgale – 79, Vidzeme – 261 and Zemgale – 83 species.
