Abstract

Functional traits are increasingly being used in ecological studies. The aim of our review paper is to compile published studies about bryophyte functional traits to clarify their current use for various ecological studies and identify their further application in bryophyte studies. Possible challenges in applying bryophyte functional traits in ecological studies are the selection of the representative traits, which would be typical for the target bryophyte species and communities.
Functional traits should also be specific, depending on the study objective and experimental design.

Keywords: bryophytes, functional traits.
