The Center of Sustainable Education at Daugavpils University carries out scientific, academic, knowledge transfer, and international cooperation activities to promote the reorientation of education towards sustainable development and the advancement of sustainable teacher education. Guided by the principles of the UN Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Center contributes to the transformation of education systems and practices in order to meet global sustainability challenges. Research results are implemented in regional, national, and international contexts, fostering innovation and long-term impact. Academic and professional competences are enhanced through active participation in research projects, dissemination of results, and engagement with the international academic community. A strong emphasis is placed on transdisciplinarity, enabling knowledge integration across disciplines and collaboration with diverse stakeholders in co-creating solutions for a sustainable future.

Research Directions

Research is dedicated to advancing sustainable education and implementing the principles of Agenda 2030 and the SDGs. Its focus areas include:

  • Higher education development aligned with the goals of sustainable development and Agenda 2030.
  • Competence-based education in teacher education.
  • Professional identity and continuous development of teachers.
  • Education for sustainable development, sustainable education, and environmental education.
  • Career education and the role of formal and non-formal youth education in achieving SDGs.
  • Transdisciplinary approaches in research and practice, promoting collaboration across academic fields, professional sectors, and societal stakeholders to address sustainability challenges.
