On April 16, 2026, the Doctoral School of Daugavpils University hosted an engaging online lecture titled “Why Inclusion in Higher Education Matters: an Interdisciplinary Perspective (Insights and Experiences from ‘Open EU’ Initiatives).”

The lecture was delivered by Professor Dzintra Iliško from the DU Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, this year’s recipient of the prestigious DU ‘Annual Science Award 2025.’ The professor’s extensive experience in educational sciences and international collaboration provided an in-depth look into current inclusion processes within the European Higher Education Area.

During the 90-minute session, Prof. Iliško emphasized that while inclusion remains a top priority, its practical implementation is often fragmented. Participants explored how the intersection of social identities – such as gender, ethnicity, and social background –
impacts student experiences and academic success. The lecture analyzed international initiatives serving as “laboratories” for inclusive methods and presented a multilevel framework for a sustainable academic environment, calling for both individual and systemic change.
The event was held in English and attracted an audience keen on gaining international academic experience. Participants who successfully attend the lecture will receive certificates of professional development, confirming their expertise in this vital and timely field.
