About the Speaker:

Anda Baklāne is a researcher and curator of digital research services at the National Library of Latvia. She teaches digital humanities, data analysis, and visualization at the University of Latvia. With a background in literary studies and philosophy, she has increasingly focused on promoting digital research skills in the humanities. Over the past decade, she has organized six summer schools and a hackathon dedicated to advancing these practices. Her research interests include digital analysis of Latvian 20th-century prose and poetry, data visualization, and conceptual metaphor theory.

About the Lecture:

National libraries have become important sources of digital research data for the humanities and social sciences, enabling the development of data-driven research. The National Library of Latvia follows the principles and practices of the GLAM Labs (https://www.glamlabs.io/) and Collections as Data (https://collectionsasdata.github.io/) movements, providing digitized collections as datasets for computational research. The lecture introduces the main concepts, infrastructures, and workflows involved in creating and curating research datasets and showcases experimental studies and demonstration tools developed at the library.
