Dissemination Seminar of the Erasmus+ Project “ESD: SuperVision 4.0” in Latvia, Virogna

On August 23rd, 2023 within the framework of Erasmus+ project “ESD: SuperVision 4.0” the final dissemination project seminar “Development and Future of Sustainable Education” took place in Latvia, Virogna. The head of the Development Department of Daugavpils city’s Municipality Daina Kriviņa discussed about the progress of Daugavpils city towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Leading researcher Ilona Fjodorova and Professor Dzintra Iliško of Daugavpils University, Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences presented research on education for sustainable development as reflected in international journals of the UNESCO Chair at Daugavpils University: Journal of Teacher Education for Sustainability and Discourse and Communication for Sustainable Education. Project coordinator and leading researcher from the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences Mārīte Kravale-Pauliņa highlighted the main outcomes of the project and initiated a discussion with the participants of the seminar about the future of sustainable development and education, principles of sustainable development, whole school approach and creation of cooperation networks.

Oskars Zuģickis, the head of Europe Direct South Latgale Center,discussed about the European Year of Skills and opportunities for citizens’ participation in local community. The role of young people and their involvement in local activities was especially emphasized. Teachers from Daugavpils State Gymnasium discussed about implementation of the goals of sustainable education and presented their vision about the future of sustainable development and education. The results of the group work were presented to our international project partners from Germany (Vechta University and RCE Oldenburger Münsterland – Kompetenzzentrum für Bildung zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung), United Kingdom (Edinburg University) and Romania (Casa Corpului Didactic Dambovita and Scoala Gimnaziala Buciumeni) who joined in the Zoom session in the afternoon. The project partners’ feedback and contribution to a discussion was a valuable experience for all participants of the seminar.

We truly appreciate our cooperation within last three years with all of the project partners from Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Romania, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Latvia for sharing experience and bringing ideas of education for sustainable development to school setting. We are very thankful to the team of Daugavpils State Gymnasium for enriching experience, exchange of ideas and hope for a better future.
