This week, Daugavpils University will celebrate its 105th anniversary – a significant milestone that reflects the University’s enduring legacy, continued development and important role in the fields of science, education and innovation in Latvia and Europe.

To mark this special occasion, Daugavpils University has prepared a unique gift for the city’s residents and visitors – a spectacular light and video show projected onto the façade of the University building. On Thursday, 5 November, as well as on Friday and Saturday, starting at 5:00 p.m., visitors will be able to enjoy an audiovisual performance dedicated to the anniversary at the University building at 13 Vienības Street. Through light and video projections, the show will bring the University’s story to life and highlight its significance throughout the years.

The light and video show is a special tribute to the city of Daugavpils and its residents in celebration of the University’s 105th anniversary. Everyone – both Daugavpils residents and visitors – is warmly invited to enjoy this festive gift and join us in celebrating this important milestone in the University’s history.

From a Teachers’ Institute to an Internationally Recognised University

Over the past 105 years, Daugavpils University has undergone remarkable development – evolving from a small Teachers’ Institute into a modern, internationally recognised higher education and research institution. Today, the University holds a special place in the scientific community of Latvia and Europe and has become one of the region’s leading centres of knowledge and innovation.

Daugavpils University is the largest higher education institution in the Latgale region. It currently has more than 3,000 students from Latvia and other countries enrolled in 49 study programmes, covering a wide range of disciplines – from natural sciences and engineering to the humanities and social sciences. The University provides modern education, conducts internationally recognised research and fosters cooperation with local and international partners. Through their knowledge and skills, its graduates make a significant contribution to the development of Daugavpils, Latgale and Latvia as a whole.

The 105th anniversary is not only an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past, but also a testament to the University’s ability to adapt, grow and create new opportunities for future generations. Daugavpils University continues its journey as an important centre of education, science and innovation, contributing to the development of Daugavpils and the entire region.
