Daugavpils University recently hosted its 6th International Erasmus+ Staff Training Week. From May 18 to May 22, 2026, the event brought together academic and administrative staff, strengthening international cooperation, fostering cultural exchange, and laying the groundwork for new, sustainable projects.
This year, the event welcomed representatives from 17 higher education institutions, covering an impressive geographical range from Europe and Asia to Africa and the Caribbean.
Participating Institutions:
The event was opened by Prof. Inese Kokina, Vice-Rector for Studies at Daugavpils University, and Līvija Jankovska, representative of the Daugavpils State City Municipality. Following tradition, Velta Trūle, Project Manager for International Student Recruitment in the International and Public Relations Department, introduced attendees to DU’s activities. Jolanta Reča spoke about the city’s growth, presenting Daugavpils as the economic engine of the Eastern Baltic, while Jeļena Tamane introduced the OpenEU project, emphasizing its crucial role in the university’s future development. Concurrently, Antra Meņģele, Head of the Programme Management Department at the State Education Development Agency, introduced Erasmus+ projects, highlighting their opportunities and impact on the growth of the higher education sector.

The programme was diverse and engaging. Under the guidance of Prof. Maija Burima, guests learned the basics of the Latvian language and culture, visited DU faculties, institutes and laboratories, and participated in experience-sharing discussions and a conference on digital innovation and security.
The cultural programme included a guided tour of Daugavpils’ historical centre and a visit to the Technique and Industrial Design Centre. The week concluded with a trip through the Latgale region, where guests enjoyed traditional cuisine and took part in a bread-baking workshop at the Aglona Bread Museum. The International Erasmus+ Staff Week once again proved that Daugavpils University is an open and internationally competitive institution. The Erasmus+ Programme Department extends its sincere gratitude to the entire university team for their hospitality and hard work!
