Think there is nothing new to discover about apples? Perhaps that is only at first glance.

To celebrate Interreg Cooperation Day 2026, Daugavpils University invites children aged 7–10 to take part in the educational and playful “Apple Detectives” event on 25 September at ARPC “Zeimuļs” in Rēzekne.

During the event, the children will become real apple detectives: they will search for clues, observe, compare and try to notice details that we may not usually pay attention to in everyday life. They will be encouraged not to rely solely on their first impressions, to describe their discoveries and, if they wish, to take part in an apple-tasting activity.

The event has been designed to allow children to explore food through curiosity and independent discovery, without pressure. It incorporates the principles of the SAPERE sensory food education approach adapted within the EDUFOOD BSR project.

The event has been developed and will be led by Daugavpils University, with EDUFOOD BSR project partners from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia also contributing specially prepared materials. Through a single product that is familiar in all three countries, the children will also discover the idea of cross-border cooperation—how people from different countries can share experiences, learn from one another and create something together.

The event is organised within the framework of EDUFOOD BSR Project No. S040, “Food Education Innovations for Healthier Habits and a More Sustainable Baltic Sea Region.” The project supports schools and municipalities in exploring practical approaches to more child-centred and sustainable school meals, including the adaptation and piloting of the SAPERE sensory food education method.
