“SOCIAL SCIENCES FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT 2026”

The Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Daugavpils University (Latvia) announces 21st edition of the Annual International Academic Conference “Social Sciences for Regional Development 2026”.

The conference will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and online).

The conference aims:

  • to promote the contribution of social sciences to regional development;
  • to promote an interdisciplinary approach to the study of regional issues;
  • to stimulate discussion about the socio-economic, legal, and technological challenges of modern society;
  • to identify new research niches and future study directions in regional development;
  • to activate the transfer of research results into practice.

The conference provides an international and interdisciplinary platform for the exchange of experience on contemporary regional development trends, problems and their solutions. Conference participants are invited to apply for the following sections:

  • Economics – Regional Economics, Finance and Credit
  • Law – Civil Law, Criminal Law
  • Sociology and Social Psychology
  • Management Science

In previous years, the conference’s scientific discussions have covered topics such as:

  • Challenges of regional inequality in the socio-economic sphere: differences in living standards and well-being, development of bioregions, stratification of society, as well as economic security and forecasting of economic processes;
  • Human capital, employment and labor mobility: worker well-being and productivity, remote work, as well as issues of personality psychology and ethnosociology in a regional perspective;
  • Digital transformation in socio-economic processes: the impact of artificial intelligence and digital currencies, as well as strengthening the financial literacy of society;
  • Distribution of funding and legal framework for regional growth: the roles of government, local governments and their institutions in strengthening local competitiveness;
  • The role of innovative human capital in regional competitiveness: an interdisciplinary study through the prism of economics, law, sociology, psychology and management science;
  • Regional identity as a driving force of competitiveness: an interdisciplinary assessment from the perspectives of economics, law, sociology and psychology;
  • The impact of spatial planning on regional competitiveness: analysis of economic processes and legal framework;
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of innovation management in the context of territorial development;
  • Contemporary challenges in regional development: economic sustainability, general and psychosocial security of residents, geopolitical aspects, digital and green transition, as well as optimization of local government services in the face of changing demographics.

Scientists, students, policy-makers and practitioners can benefit through attending the conference owing to the:
