On May 7-8, 2026, the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Daugavpils University is organizing the international scientific conference “History: Sources and People”. This year’s conference will be attended by experienced and young researchers who will present 44 papers and represent Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, the USA, and the United Kingdom.
The conference plenary session “Daugavpils Community between 20th and 21st Century” is devoted to the 105th anniversary of Daugavpils University and activities of Daugavpils city neighborhoods. Asoc. professor, Dr. hist. Henrihs Soms will discuss the activities of History Department of Daugavpils University from its foundation in 1969 till 2023. In her turn, professor, Dr. hist. Irēna Saleniece will explore the achievement of the Oral History Centre of Daugavpils University from 2003 till nowadays. Our special guest PhD Inga Belousa from the non-governmental organisation “Cita Daugavpils”will devote her speech to the peculiarities of neighbourhood activism in Daugavpils.
