From 21 to 25 July 2026, Dr. philol. Ilze Kačāne, leading researcher at the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Daugavpils University, participated in a professional development mobility under the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme at the research and innovation SME Science for Change in Barcelona, Spain. During the visit, she met with members of the organization’s team, gained insight into projects and methodological approaches by Science for Change, and explored opportunities for future collaboration.

Science for Change is a partner of Daugavpils University in the Horizon Europe project “Promoting Understanding and Lifelong learning Successful Education through the ARTs and culture” (PULSE-ART, Grant Agreement No. 101178988). The organisation aims to promote social transformation, evidence-based public policymaking, and high-quality science communication, with a particular focus on civic engagement initiatives and fostering dialogue among citizens, public authorities, municipalities, the private sector, and other stakeholders. One of its priorities is the use of co-creation strategies and approaches. These activities enable a wide range of citizens and stakeholders to participate in identifying and addressing societal challenges while fostering an equitable and inclusive environment for collaboration.

During the mobility, Dr. Kačāne discussed ongoing cooperation and explored new opportunities for collaboration with Science for Change science policy specialist Marine Masson, the PULSE-ART project coordinator, and other colleagues. An online meeting was also held with the organisation’s partners from France and the Netherlands, during which inclusive, arts-based educational activities and their evaluation methods were discussed. Thanks to the programme prepared by the host organisation, Dr. Kačāne had the opportunity to attend the dance performance Records i ficcions, presented as part of the Grec Festival de Barcelona, as well as to visit several of Barcelona’s most significant cultural and historical landmarks.
