The European Humanities University in Vilnius invites to attend a course entitled “The Historical and Cultural Heritage of Vilnius as a Tool for Shaping the Identity of Central and Eastern Europe” as part of the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programs (BIP).

The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge and skills for working with the urban landscape using Vilnius as an example, analyzing contemporary historical and cultural heritage and its potential use in the process of forming and maintaining national identities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. The training course includes an online stage (May 1–17) and an in-person stage (May 18–22). The online stage will take place on the Moodle platform in the form of a seminar. The in-person stage will take place at ESU in Vilnius (Lithuania). As a result of their work, course participants will prepare and defend their research projects. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate for 6 ECTS credits.

The idea for the course is based on the correspondence between two 20th century Eastern European intellectuals from Vilnius – Polish thinker Czesław Miłosz and Lithuanian essayist Tomas Venclova – who proposed the metaphor “Vilnius as a way of life.” During the face-to-face meeting in Vilnius, the main focus will be on practical classes exploring the urban landscape of Vilnius and understanding the place and role of the historical and cultural landscape of Lithuanians, Poles, Belarusians, Jews, Russian Old Believers, Tatars, and Karaites, as well as the religious traditions of Catholicism, Orthodox Christianity, Protestantism, Judaism, Islam, and others.
