On October 20, 2026, at Daugavpils Secondary School of Opportunities, within the framework of the program project Cultural Literacies’ Value in Europe (CLiViE), the professional development program “Art Works for Change” was implemented, which was mastered by 14 educators. The program lasted 4 academic hours and was led by IHSS leading researcher Oksana Kovzele and IHSS assistant professor, researcher Maija Grizāne.
During the program, educators became familiar with the CLiViE project website, including the methodological toolkit for promoting cultural literacy values ”Art Works for Change”, which aroused particular interest.
The participants of the program learned about the innovative methods and approaches used in the CLiViE project – the Theory of Change framework and the Social Return on Investment analysis method; they got an idea of the possibilities of applying such a methodology in their daily work, as well as in the planning and implementation of art-related projects and activities. The educators also had the opportunity to get acquainted with four case studies implemented by the Latvian working group of the CLiViE project and their results. The participants of the program participated in the discussions, actively asked questions and commented on what they heard and saw.
In the second part of the activity, educators put themselves in the role of their students, participating in an educational game “Polish Cultural and Historical Heritage” and a wax candle making master class. Both intellectual and creative collaborations demonstrated the erudition and openness of the program participants to creative experiments.
After completing the class educators were offered to choose three words/phrases that characterized the experience they gained. The most popular words were “creativity”, “joy”, “self-expression”, “ideas”. All educators emphasized the value of creative work both for pedagogues and pupils.
The project has received funding from the European Union’s “Horizon Europe” Research and Innovation programme under the grant agreement No. 101132285.
