Daugavpils University (Reg. no. 90000065985) implementing specific support target projects 8.2.2. in accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers regulations No. 25 (Riga, January 9, 2018), announces the selection of foreign academic staff in such science groups:

1. Social sciences (1 position)

Requirements for the applicant:
– person has been employed in an academic position in one of the accredited foreign universities during the previous five years;
– person with a doctor’s degree in a relevant or related field of science;

– person has experience in research work;

– person has publications in a relevant or related field of science;

– person has experience in the development or improvement of teaching materials;

– person uses innovative teaching methods in the study process;

– person has a good knowledge of English (at least at B2 level according to the Europass self-assessment table) and the ability to use language skills in study and methodological work.

Documents to be submitted:
– application addressed to the Rector;
– CV in Europass format;
– copy of the diploma for the scientific doctoral degree;
– list of publications within the last five years.

Duration of employment – 4-6 months (indicate the desired time of participation when applying).

The requirements for candidates for the position of the Rector of Daugavpils University (hereinafter – DU) are determined in accordance with the “DU Rector’s Election Regulation” (approved at the meeting of the DU Council on January 5, 2023, proceedings No. 1).

The competence of the Rector’s position is determined:

• in Article 17.¹ of the Law on Higher Education Institutions (https://likumi.lv/ta/id/37967-augstskolu-likums);
• in Clause 41 of the DU Constitution (https://du.lv/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/DU-Satversme_17.06.2022-1.pdf).

The following mandatory minimum requirements are set for the candidate for the position of the Rector (if any of the mandatory minimum requirements are not met, the candidate for the position of the Rector is not evaluated further):

• impeccable reputation (i.e., there is no reason to reasonably doubt the applicant’s impeccable reputation and there is no evidence to the contrary);
• Doctor of Science degree (PhD) in one of the fields and/or sub-fields of science in the areas of strategic specialization of DU as defined in the DU Constitution;
• At least 5 years of continuous experience in a managerial position, preferably in an

academic environment over the past 10 years, which provides the competencies and

knowledge required to professionally fulfil the duties of the Rector in this position;

• proficiency in the national language to the extent specified in the laws and regulations in the field of the use of the national language (C1 or higher level), English skills (at least B1 level);
• at least 5 years of experience in attracting local and/or international private and/or public funding, including for research and innovation projects (total project funding of no less than 0.5 million euros);
• at least 5 years of experience of scientific or research representation at an international

level in international industry organizations, associations.

The candidate for the position of the Rector is subject to the following additional requirements:

• extensive academic work experience (i.e., leading lectures and guest lectures, study field, program management, representation in master’s and bachelor’s theses defence commissions, representation in the promotion council etc.)
• experience in science, science management, international scientific projects, supervising PhD theses, participation in international scientific conferences;
• experience in higher education management (scientific institutions, research institutions, state administration higher education institutions, private sector higher education institutions);
• experience in providing knowledge transfer;
• experience in building cooperation on a national and international scale (institutional cooperation, participation in organizing committees of international scientific conferences, international scientific networks, etc.);
• work experience in the organization’s strategic, management processes and change management (management and implementation of the institution’s strategy etc.);
• orientation towards development, building and maintaining positive relationships, team management and strategic vision, orientation towards achieving results.

Monthly salary (gross): starting from 2,105 EUR per month (the Rector’s salary will be determined by the DU Council, taking into account the Rector’s competence).

The candidates for the position of the Rector must submit their application documents by 28 February, 2023 02:00 PM in one of the following ways:

• in the form of an electronic document, using a secure electronic signature containing a time stamp, by sending it to the electronic mail address padome@du.lv with the subject “Daugavpils Universitātes rektora amata konkursam.”;
• signed by hand, placed in a closed envelope marked ” Daugavpils Universitātes rektora amata konkursam.”, submitted to the DU Administrative Department at 13 Vienības Street, Room 226, Daugavpils.

Candidates for the position of Rector must submit the following documents:

• a motivation letter, including information on compliance with the requirements specified in Article 2.6 of the “DU Rector’s Election Regulation”;
• declaration of the applicant for the position of the DU Rector – Appendix No. 1 of “DU Rector’s Election Regulation”;
• A description of the work experience – Europass CV (supplementing it with a description of the candidate’s academic and scientific activity in accordance with the example in Appendix No. 2 of the “DU Rector’s Election Regulation”);
• a vision of the strategic development of DU in the next five years (in the form of theses up to 4000 characters);
• copies of documents certifying higher education, experience, skills and knowledge.

The candidate selection and Rector election procedure will be conducted in accordance with the “DU Rector’s Election Regulation”.
