Lecturers from the Department of Environment and Technology Visit the University of Pisa
During the last week of April, lecturers from the Department of Environment and Technology, Dr. sc. comp. Vija Vagale and Mg. sc. comp. Andris Vagalis, visited the Department of Computer Science at the University of Pisa (Italy) as part of the ERASMUS+ mobility program.
During the visit, our university lecturer Vija Vagale delivered a lecture on the latest trends and opportunities in data processing and visualization, as well as on data visualization tools. After the presentation, a discussion arose among the participants about the capabilities of various tools in the field of data processing and the current challenges faced in this area.
Lecturer Andris Vagalis gave the audience an overview of the preparation of IT specialists and the organization of the study process at Daugavpils University. Special attention was given to the integration of professional qualification courses in the IT field into the academic curriculum. In this regard, the Department of Environment and Technology has long-standing experience, which appeared to be both interesting and valuable to colleagues at the University of Pisa.
Both before and after the lectures, meetings were held with Andrea Corradini, the ERASMUS+ coordinator of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Pisa, as well as with department staff and colleagues. These meetings included discussions about cooperation opportunities both within and beyond the ERASMUS+ program. Discussions also focused on the challenges and threats posed by modern technologies, their impact on the quality of knowledge, and the course of the educational process at universities.
Topics such as digital transformation, staff digital competence, academic integrity, and the use of various technological solutions in higher education were also given considerable attention.
