The Coleopterological Research Center

The Coleopterological Research Center conducts research on the systematics, taxonomy, morphology, fauna and biogeography of beetles (Coleoptera). The center regularly organizes expeditions in Latvia and abroad. The scientific journal “Baltic Journal of Coleopterology” (www.bjc.sggw.waw.pl) indexed in international databases is published in The Coleopterological Research Center, the World Beetle Collection is established, and the databases of Ground beetles world fauna (www.carabidae.pro) and Longhorn beetles world fauna (www.cerambycidae.org) are maintained.

The main research topics of the Coleopterological Research Center:

  • Paleocoleopterology
  • Distribution, taxonomy, ecology and protection of biodiversity of the Baltic region beetle (Coleoptera) fauna
  • World fauna, biogeography, taxonomy and systematics of ground beetle (Carabidae), carrion beetle (Silphidae), rove beetle (Staphylinidae), leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae), and true weevil (Curculionidae) families
  • Investigations of morphology of beetles (Coleoptera) using a X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and electron microscopy (EM) methods
  • Investigations of bioirization of beetles (Coleoptera)
  • Studies on the interaction of beetles (Coleoptera) and nanoparticles
