The DU Annual Award in Science is awarded for outstanding achievements in science that have contributed to the scientific development of DU. The award is given to groups such as natural sciences, mathematics and engineering, and in the groups of humanities, social and educational sciences in two categories: Daugavpils University’s Annual Award in Science and Daugavpils University’s Annual Award for Young Scientist. One award is granted yearly to each category and science group.

The DU Annual Award in the science group can be awarded to applicants whose work experience at DU is at least 5 years:

– for DU academic staff with a doctoral degree;

– for DU young scientists who obtained their doctoral degree not more than 10 years ago.

The awarding of the DU Year Award in Science can be initiated by any structural unit of DU by submitting documents to the DU Science council, which characterize the person to be nominated.

The DU Annual Science Awards are presented at a festive event dedicated to the anniversary of the DU Constitution.

The winners of the DU Annual Science Award conduct an open lecture at the DU annual conference.

The tradition of  the DU Annual Science Award began in 2009, when the award was given for the achievements accomplished in 2008.
