Projekta numurs:OSI_PIP_BioT-2025/1-0042
Projekta īstenotājs:Daugavpils Universitāte
Project manager: Lead.researcher, Dr.phys Boriss Poļakovs
Project administrative manager: Alise Griķe
Project period: 01.10.2025.-30.09.2026
Total project funding:199 890,70 EUR.

Information about project:
Chromogenic coating is the core technology for Smart Windows, which will play an important role in
energy saving in near future. In this project we offer to use chromogenic photochromic nanomaterials (e.g. WO3-x) and thermochromic nanomaterials (e.g. VO2) making advanced printed x-chromic coating
incorporating plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) with enhanced VIS transparency and high solar modulation.
Additional goal is to achieve synergic effects between plasmonic and thermochromic components to decreased phase transition temperature (to 25-30°C) of thermochromic material using additional energy absorbed from solar spectrum and converted into thermal energy by plasmonic nanoparticles. Important to note, that NPsbased wet deposition technology (e.g. inkjet printing) allows drastic decrease of fabrication costs in comparison to traditional vacuum deposition processes, and makes Smart Windows more accessible for civil engineering and end users.
The key objective of this research and innovation project is to develop functional inks for printing
cost-efficient and high-performance photochromic and thermochromic coatings for energy-saving
Smart Windows applications.
