The aim of the project is to establish a scientifically based research framework that would provide a platform for policy makers. This will be the first longitudinal study of this scale on children’s health and well-being in Europe. During the project, a survey will be developed for children and young people from birth to 25 years of age, so that the data obtained and information on the development of children’s health and well-being can be used to inform the decision-making processes of European policymakers. In order to solve complex social problems that often have a negative impact on the well-being of children and adolescents, policymakers cannot rely on existing data. Longitudinal studies on the well-being of children and young people are necessary to understand how different courses of action affect different groups of children at different stages of their lives. Without the results of such studies, policy development is not justified and change is not possible. Such a Europe-wide study will not only change policies for children and young people, but also improve the quality of life for children in Europe. The ECDP is an interdisciplinary project involving researchers from various fields of science – sociology, politics, anthropology, psychology, and cultural studies.
