Measure “Practical research”
Eurpoean Regional Development Fund funding project

Establishment of an analytical molecular identification device based on metal oxide nanostructures for the detection of biomolecules (Agreement No. 1.1.1.1/16/A/001)

Project implementation period: 01.03.2017. – 29.02.2020.

Project applicant: Daugavpils University

The aim of te project: to develop a biosensor-based device for detecting the presence of specific biological DNA in a sample.

Research planned within the project and expected results:

The project will involve fundamental research that will enable the creation of a ZnO nanostructure-based biosensor capable of detecting the presence of specific biological DNA in complex natural samples. The results of the research will be concentrated in a prototype device that will provide the features required by modern demands – analysis can be performed quickly, with high reliability, and the device is compact and portable.

The project will generate new technologies and knowledge that will improve the competitiveness of the economy as a whole. The results of the project will be commercialized and brought to the production stage, which will serve as a basis for the creation of new companies or increasing the competitiveness of existing companies. The developed device can be widely used in various sectors of the economy, including abroad, thus promoting the development of local high-tech and innovative companies and export growth, thus contributing to the achievement of the RIS3 objective – the creation and introduction into production of innovative and internationally competitive products with high added value – 40% of innovative companies.

Total costs of the project: EUR 600,000

(of which ERDF support intensity – 85%, state budget support intensity – 7.5%, DU co-financing – 7.5%)
