Today, on September 30, Daugavpils University was visited by H.E. Gudrun Masloch, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Latvia, and Ulrike Würz, Director of the Goethe-Institut in Riga, in order to learn more about the university, its development directions, and its contribution to the growth of the Latgale region.

During the visit, discussions were held on cooperation opportunities with German universities, as well as on the importance and role of Daugavpils University in the region of Eastern Latvia. Several new areas of collaboration were outlined, which will strengthen international partnerships and promote academic and cultural exchange.

It was emphasized that it is essential to create an environment where students, upon graduating from Daugavpils University, choose to remain and work in Latgale. This is an important key aspect for the socio-economic development of the region and the resilience of its society. The development of the new bachelor’s study programme “Strategic Risks and Crisis Management” was mentioned as an example. The programme is aimed at today’s security challenges and provides the knowledge needed to strengthen regional and national defense under modern conditions. In addition, DU offers a wide range of lifelong learning courses, which help local residents improve their skills and adapt to labour market needs.

H.E. Gudrun Maslocha highly valued the opportunity to become more familiar with Daugavpils University and emphasized that cooperation and exchange of experience at this level are also important for strengthening bilateral relations between Germany and Latvia.
