On December 28, 2023 Daugavpils University was pleased to welcome its graduate student Ilze Haka and her son Matīss, who has already shown a keen interest in biology.
Ilze Haka, a graduate of Daugavpils University in the fields of biology and home economics, is widely recognized as a talented and active craftswoman with strong involvement in various social initiatives. The university places high value on maintaining strong ties with its alumni, particularly when the next generation begins to express interest in academic pursuits.
In recognition of this connection, the visit of Ilze and Matīs was personally guided by the Rector of Daugavpils University, professor Arvīds Barševskis.
Reflecting on the visit, professor Barševskis noted:
“We first met with Ilze and Matīss at the Rector’s Office and then visited several laboratories. Matīss was clearly fascinated by what he saw — his curiosity was evident with every specimen and display. Young people like him deserve support and encouragement. Parents like Ilze, who recognize and nurture their children’s interests, also play a vital role. It is important to notice that spark in a child’s eyes. Latvia needs passionate young biologists like Matīss.”
