Today, on October 26, 2023, during a meeting of the Daugavpils University Council, an in-depth discussion was held on the strategic development of the humanities and social sciences. These fields hold significant strategic value at Daugavpils University and possess strong potential for growth, both regionally and internationally. Under the new strategic vision, the role of the humanities and social sciences at the University is expected to become increasingly prominent. Key concepts such as “border” and “security” – terms that continue to grow in importance – were highlighted as central to the University’s evolving strategic priorities. Prof. Anita Stašulāne, Director of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr. Māra Kravale, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, presented an overview of the current achievements as well as the challenges that lie ahead. Council members actively contributed to the discussion and offered a number of recommendations to support the further advancement of research and development in these disciplines.
