On March 14, Latvian artist and photographer Reinis Hofmanis visited the “Ilgas” Study and Research Center, participating in the preparation of the Latvian pavilion exhibition.

The Latvian pavilion will participate in the 19th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, where the results of this visit will also be presented. The main idea of the exhibition is to explore life on NATO’s outer border, particularly in Latvia, during a time of geopolitical conflict. The exhibition seeks to highlight the impact of military defense on the landscape and the people living there, emphasizing the emotional and physical consequences of living under the constant threat of military attack. It invites architects, policymakers, and defense specialists to reflect on how defense measures shape territories and affect the daily lives of local inhabitants.
Reinis Hofmanis enthusiastically and joyfully photographed rare specimens from the collection. He also noted that the Coleopterological Research Center is a unique and highly inspiring place, which he would like to visit again.
