Project Partners Gather in Riga as Daugavpils University Launches New Erasmus+ Initiative “Teacher Academy for Plurilingual Preschools: A Path Towards Equal Opportunities” (TAPPEO)
On June 12–13, 2025, the partners of the international project “Teacher Academy for Plurilingual Preschools – A Path Towards Equal Opportunities” (TAPPEO) gathered in Riga for a project meeting held at the European Union House. The event was organized by Daugavpils University in collaboration with the project’s lead partner, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain), and other consortium members from Norway, Turkey, Finland, Greece, Romania, and Latvia.
The TAPPEO project aims to foster multilingualism among preschool children by equipping teachers with up-to-date knowledge and innovative teaching practices. These include the use of the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach, immersive language learning experiences, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Additionally, the project seeks to integrate digital technologies and artificial intelligence tools into early childhood education to support children’s linguistic and cognitive development. Special attention is given to the needs of migrant children and those whose native language differs from the national language of instruction.
During the meeting in Riga, the project partners presented the progress of each work package, shared experiences, and agreed on the next steps in the implementation of the project. The discussions also touched on legal and institutional aspects, as well as future cooperation formats, including both face-to-face and online meetings.
The TAPPEO project will result in a variety of widely accessible teaching materials and resources, such as teacher manuals, training workshop materials, and videos featuring real-life examples from classrooms. In addition, the project will provide guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence tools in creating personalized learning experiences for preschool children.
An online teacher community will also be established, serving as a dynamic platform for sharing resources, best practices, and professional experiences. This community will play a key role in ensuring the sustainability and continued impact of the project even after its official conclusion.
