On December 18, a significant and celebratory event took place at Daugavpils University – the official presentation of the book Check-list of Mosses of Latvia. As is customary at such academic occasions, the ceremony featured remarks from the book’s author and editor, as well as from the Rector of Daugavpils University, professor Arvīds Barševskis.
The publication is the result of collaboration between bryologists from Daugavpils University, the University of Latvia, the Nature Conservation Agency, and the Latvian Botanical Society. The project was made possible with the financial support of the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund. In his address, the Rector expressed his appreciation for the active involvement of DU bryologists and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation with colleagues from other scientific institutions in Latvia. He extended special thanks to Dr. Anna Mežaka for her dedicated work on the publication and wished her continued success in the realization of her many future scientific initiatives.
The release of Check-list of Mosses of Latvia represents a noteworthy milestone not only for the researchers at the Institute of Life Sciences and Technologies but also for the students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care. The publication is expected to enhance opportunities for student involvement in bryological research and foster further interest in the study of biodiversity.
