From May 20th to May 24th, the Erasmus+ international staff training week took place for the fourth time at Daugavpils University (DU), during which international representatives from various cooperation partner universities visited DU:

During the opening ceremony of the Erasmus+ International Staff Training Week DU rector Prof. Arvīds Barševskis and the chairperson of the Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs of Daugavpils State Municipality Līvija Jankovska, addressed the international guests with a welcoming speech. During the speech, the importance of international cooperation was emphasized and the participants were wished a productive and eventful week.
Project Manager for International Students Recruitment of the International and Public Relations Office of DU Velta Trūle, presented about Daugavpils University, the city of Daugavpils and the Latvian culture and traditions to the guests.
In the course of the event, Inga Belousa, the project coordinator and expert, researcher of the NGO “Green Freedom” /”Zaļa Brīvība”/, led a lecture on the topic of Socially, Economically and Environmentally Sustainable Future. During the lecture, several issues related to “green thinking” and changing habits in our everyday life were discussed.
At the end of the event, Inese Gavarāne, Head of the Science and Business Cooperation Center, and Jeļena Dedele, representative of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency in Daugavpils, performed their presentations to the guests.
As part of the International Staff Week, presentations by international guests, discussions on future cooperation and possible joint projects were held at DU. The Institute of Life Sciences and Technologies was visited. Individual visits of participants to DU faculties, departments and administrative units were planned, during which the international representatives met with counterparts to discuss more specific issues of cooperation, as well as to plan future tasks. The programme also included a lecture on the Latvian language and culture, led by prof. Maija Burima, so that the participants can create an idea of the values of the Latvian cultural canon and learn functional phrases for communication in Latvian.
The guests also took part in cultural events: they got to know the historical center of Daugavpils, visited the Daugavpils Technical and Industrial Design Center “Inženieru Arsenāls”, where they were presented with the largest exhibition of motorized vehicles in Latgale, went on a trip around the region of Latgale.
International Staff Week serves as a platform to build and strengthen partnerships with universities around the world.
