International Bryology summer school: “From bryophyte identification to practical use 2024” completed successfully

In August 18th finished 10 day Bryology summer school: “From bryophyte identification to practical use 2024” that took place in Study and research center Ilgas. This summer school was financially supported by State Education Development Agency Republic of Latvia. Ten students from seven countries (Germany, Czech Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria, Finland, USA, France) were trained by experienced bryologists in bryophyte identification, conservation, ecology and practical use.

Students were studied bryophytes in forests, wetlands and in anthropogenic sites as well as were intrduced with Latvian cultural heritage in Augšdaugava, Jēkabpils and Krāslava municipalities.

Field expeditions, laboratory work with microscopes as well as seminars and final project student presentations were organized  during this summer school. Students got introduced with Latgalian cultural heritage in Daugavpils Regional and Art museum and Clay center in Daugavpils. Students got introduced also with plant cultures and their practical use and production process in ecofarm “Kurmīši”.
