ERASMUS+ program guests from Italy visit the Daugavpils University Institute of Life Sciences and Technology

On October 7th, the Daugavpils University Institute of Life Sciences and Technology was visited by guests of the Daugavpils Technical and Tourism College ERASMUS+ mobility cooperation project, including 12 students and the project coordinator from the I.S.I.T. Bassi-Burgatti School, located in the Bologna area, Italy. The foreign students and educators were accompanied by the college’s project manager, Sandra Celmiņa.

The main purpose of the Italian school representatives visit was to gain a broader understanding of the activities and infrastructure of DU and local institutions, particularly in relation to the field of ecology and the European Green Deal. The guests focused on principles of sustainable development, rational use of natural resources, possibilities for the use of renewable energy, and the preservation of biodiversity.

The guests were introduced to the activities and equipment of various Daugavpils University laboratories by the scientific staff of the Institute of Life Sciences and Technology:

  • Genomics and Biotechnology Laboratory: Laboratory assistant from the Department of Technology, BSc. Biol. Aleksandra Mošenoka.
  • Molecular Biology and Genetics Laboratory: Professor from the Department of Ecology, Dr. Biol. Nataļja Škute.
  • Parasitology and Histology Laboratory: Scientific assistant from the Department of Ecology, Dr. Biol. Sanita Kecko.
  • Laser Technology Laboratory, Innovative Microscopy Center (clean rooms), and the Hologram Exhibition: 2nd-year PhD student from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care, MSc. Phys. Jans Kevišs.
  • Hydroecology Laboratory: Researcher from the Department of Ecology, Dr. Biol. Aija Brakovska.
