From March 5 until March 10, 2025 (online lectures) and from March 10 until March 14, 2025 (Face-to-face lectures) EU Erasmus+ blended intensive programme (BIP) “Innovations in Primary Education” took place at the Vytautas Magnus University Academy of Education (Lithuania).

Digital learning tools have become an integral part of educational process, on one hand enriching traditional learning with various tools, means and learning spaces, on the other hand, at the same time rising challenges, such as use of IT tools, digital content creation, robotics and AI tool application, purposeful use of virtual learning environments and adequate time allocation for these measures. Students at younger school age should work with these tools for a limited time, therefore their selection should be purposeful and thoughtful.

Within the framework of the project program, all future teachers had the opportunity to get acquainted with innovations and practical experience in the field of IT technologies: Daugavpils University (Latvia), Vytautas Magnus University Academy of Education (Lithuania), Zelenogorsko University (Poland), Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgosz (Poland).

The project organizers and guest lecturers discussed various substantive aspects of the field of education: Vice-chancellor, Assoc. prof. Ilona Tandzegolskienė-Bielaglovė, Prof. Daiva Jakavonytė-Staškuvienė (Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania) and Prof. Dr. hab. Ewa Filipiak, Dr. Joanna Szymczak (Kazimierz Wielki University, Poland), discussing current issues in primary education. Professor Dzintra Iliško and docent Jeļena Badjanova took part in the project from Daugavpils University by offering lesson “Latvian Topicalities in Primary Education” for the participants of the seminar.

In the project participated Professional Bachelor’s study programme “Primary education teacher” (42 141, D139S) 1. and 4. Year students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Daugavpils University, expanding their competences in the field of English, skills in incorporating information technology into various areas of study and developing their intercultural competence capacities:

  • Krikova Nora, Leonova Sņežana, Vansoviča Anna,  Vilcāne Sofija, Sargune Annija, Plečkena Mārīte, Kaznačejeva Jekaterina, Dobrovoļska Katerīna,  Maļinovska Poļina, Višemirska Marina.

The project implementers organized study tours at the Vilnius school (Vitlis Lyceum): practicing teachers created opportunities for integrating IT technologies not only in computer lessons, but also in the content of the language and mathematics curriculum. After the lectures, seminars, webinars, discussions and reflections were organized, which enriched the ideas about the specifics and content of the primary education teacher profession in general. As well as inspired all participants to cooperate and actively participate in BIP projects in the future.

Future primary school teachers, studied from examples of good practice by observing innovative educational practices in schools. They also could see how activities can be organized in a qualitative inclusive education environment, with personalized content and support tools to help each student learn. Students also studied about school environments, “sensory rooms”, inclusive education environments that support learning.

Because of the support of leaders of Daugavpils University, HSZF management, I. Hodanova, Siauliai Academy of Vilnius University and students themselves, as well as their readiness to implement new ideas, to enrich their personal experience and to share with others, and to promote their study programs at the international level.
