Today, on October 16, 2025, the Rector of Daugavpils University, professor Arvīds Barševskis, met with the Director of the Vilnius University Botanical Garden, Dr. Audrius Skridaila, and Deputy Director Dr. Darius Rylišķis.

The meeting focused on exploring potential joint projects and fostering closer cooperation in the field of scientific research. Daugavpils University already enjoys strong collaboration with the Latvian National Botanical Garden, including joint efforts to test the winter hardiness of various tree species at the DU Research Centre “Ilgas.” A similar partnership with the Vilnius University Botanical Garden would offer valuable opportunities for comparative studies and regional collaboration.

As Vilnius is geographically closer to Daugavpils than Riga, the Rector emphasised the potential for increased collaboration and mutual benefit: by working together, we can achieve significantly more.
