On June 5, 2025, the international project OpenEU of Daugavpils University was presented at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico. The project is implemented within the framework of the European University Alliances initiative.

The presentation was led by Jeļena Tamane, the OpenEU institutional coordinator of at Daugavpils University, who provided a detailed overview of the project’s main objectives and tasks. She emphasized the significance of the OpenEU initiative in strengthening the international academic space, as well as in promoting sustainable and inclusive higher education within the European Union. The presentation also highlighted the strategic development directions of the OpenEU alliance for the upcoming period and underscored the added value the project brings to the institutional development of Daugavpils University and its increased international visibility.

The second part of the event featured an interactive working session — a discussion focused on the inclusion of underrepresented and socially vulnerable groups in higher education. Participants analyzed the barriers faced by various groups, such as women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), individuals with special needs, migrants and refugees, as well as residents of rural and remote areas. The discussion aimed to identify possible solutions and exchange experiences on fostering inclusive education in diverse social and cultural contexts.

Students and academic staff of the University of Guadalajara actively participated in the discussions, showing great interest in the project’s thematic areas. They raised important questions, proposed potential solutions to the identified challenges, and outlined the key issues currently faced by the Mexican higher education system, particularly emphasizing the need for greater social equity and accessibility.

The visit of Daugavpils University representatives to the University of Guadalajara was carried out within the framework of the Erasmus+ staff mobility project, which promotes the strengthening of international academic cooperation, the exchange of experiences, and the development of professional competencies.
