On 27 October 2025, a lecture titled “Professional Choices in Challenging Times. Personal Experience Through the Prism of Latvian Historical Development 1991–2025” was held within the framework of the Daugavpils University Doctoral School. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Artis Pabriks.

Dr. Artis Pabriks is an academic and currently serves as the Chairman of the “Northern Europe Policy Centre”and the Association of Military Technology, Drones and Robotics. He has previously served as Minister of Defence and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, as well as a Member of the European Parliament and the Founding Rector of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. He holds degrees in History and Political Science (Ph.D.).

In his lecture, Dr. Pabriks shared his personal experience in building a professional career, paying particular attention to Latvia’s historical context and the challenges faced from 1991 to the present day. Doctoral students highly appreciated his personal insights, experience, and open reflections.

The lecture was attended by 62 participants, including doctoral students from various scientific disciplines.

With this lecture, the Daugavpils University Doctoral School launched a new series of sessions designed for all doctoral students across different study programmes. The aim of these sessions is to provide opportunities for doctoral students to expand their knowledge and skills, fostering research excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration.
