As part of the “SchoolFood WasteSolution” project, Daugavpils University has developed and published a Food Waste Measurement Methodology for school canteens, which is now available for free download.

The main goal of the methodology is to provide schools, municipalities, and other stakeholders with a practical tool for systematically measuring and analyzing food waste in educational institutions. It is based on internationally recognized approaches and practices tested in schools in Latvia and Estonia during the project.

The developed methodology includes:

  • a detailed step-by-step description of the food waste measurement process;
  • recommendations for data collection and analysis;
  • examples and visual templates for effective implementation in schools.

The SchoolFood WasteSolution project helps schools become more sustainable while also giving pupils a practical understanding of food resources and responsible consumption,” emphasize representatives of Daugavpils University.

The methodology is one of the project’s key results and will allow other schools and institutions to adopt food waste monitoring and reduction practices.

The methodology can be accessed and downloaded here.
