On April 22, 2025 Daugavpils University successfully conducted the online seminar “Young (Future) Scientists” as part of the OpenEU project, aiming to inspire and support the next generation of researchers across Europe, as well as to attract attention to the challenges young scientists face in their career.

The seminar brought together aspiring scientists, educators, and researchers from various European countries to discuss the future of science and research. Participants engaged in discussions focusing on topical research methodologies, interdisciplinary approach and international collaboration, and the role of governmental and institutional support in modern science.

Three speakers from Latvia and Spain shared their personal scientific journeys, offering valuable insights into the diverse paths one can take within the world of research. Each speaker highlighted the challenges and successes they encountered, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, curiosity, and collaboration in shaping a successful career in science. At the end of the seminar, participants engaged in a dynamic discussion focused on key aspects related to launching and sustaining a successful scientific career. The dialogue centred around three main themes: opportunities for starting a scientific career, the most common barriers faced by young scientists, and potential strategies to improve the existing support systems for researchers.

The event aligns with the objectives of the OpenEU project, which seeks to establish a learner-centred, inclusive, digital, and green European open university. By fostering such initiatives, Daugavpils University contributes to expanding access to higher education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, regardless of geographical location.
