Daugavpils University invites you to a public lecture on local development trends, challenges and opportunities

A public lecture in English will be held at Daugavpils University on October 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. “Daugavpils in Global Context: How a Struggling City Can Thrive in a Changing World”.

This lecture will be delivered by Alan Mallach (USA), an internationally recognized urbanist and author of books such as “The Divided City: Poverty and Prosperity in Urban America “and “Smaller Cities in a Shrinking World: Learning to Thrive Without Growth”. The researcher focuses on issues related to the future development prospects of regions and their cities, challenges posed by climate change, geopolitical conflicts, population decline, and economic slowdown.

The event will take place at Parādes iela 1A, room 130.

Alan Mallach, a senior fellow with the Center for Community Progress in Washington DC, has worked at the Brookings Institution and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, taught at Rutgers University, the Pratt Institute, and elsewhere, lectured widely in the United States, Europe and Asia, and served as director of housing & economic development for the city of Trenton, New Jersey. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners, an accomplished pianist and author of two well-received books on 19th century Italian opera. He holds a B.A. degree from Yale College and has lived for the past forty years in Roosevelt, a small village in New Jersey.
