From 19 to 22 August 2026, Associate Professor and Leading Researcher of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, Alīna Romanovska, together with Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Irina Presnakova, took part in the 20th international scientific conference Language, Individual & Society, held in Burgas, Bulgaria. They delivered a joint presentation entitled “Evaluating the Impact of Cultural Literacy: Case Studies in Non-Formal Educational Settings”. The presentation outlined the objectives, methodology, and key findings of the Horizon Europe project “Cultural Literacies’ Value in Europe” (CLiViE), focusing on case studies conducted in Daugavpils in non-formal educational settings. These included work with the Rothko Museum and the NGO “HVARAN”. The study explores the potential of art-based education in promoting intercultural dialogue and strengthening social cohesion among Latvian- and Russian-speaking youth. The presentation generated considerable interest, particularly regarding the innovative approaches employed to assess the impact of cultural literacy in non-formal educational contexts.
Participation in the conference provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experience with international colleagues, establish new professional contacts, and enhance Daugavpils University’s visibility in the European academic community. The insights gained will contribute to the ongoing development of the CLIVIE project and support the university’s wider efforts in promoting innovative cultural education.
