On 17 June, 2025, Daugavpils University in collaboration with the NGO “HVARAN”, conducted the closing session of the case study Together We Rise as a part of the “Horizon Europe” programme project “The Cultural Literacies’ Value in Europe” (CLiViE). The project aims to support young people in exploring their sense of identity, fostering social coherence, and developing a stronger sense of belonging. It also encourages reflection on the multiple layers of identity and their implications for managing relationships with others.
The final session was dedicated to exploring the role of individual responsibility in fostering a safe and sustainable environment. Led by Boriss Ivanovs, the programme integrated physical activities with thematic discussions focused on daily interactions with the environment, human impact on its preservation, and practical, everyday steps to promote sustainability. Children created green environment emblems, visually expressing their personal experiences and emotional engagement with the project. Discussions also centred on how conscious decision-making can contribute to environmental protection, strengthen personal accountability, and enhance economic awareness. Dr Irina Presnakova, a researcher from the CLiViE project at Daugavpils University, addressed the participants, reflecting on the research outcomes and emphasising the role of cultural literacy in shaping identity and fostering social cohesion.
At the close of the session, participants completed surveys designed both as empirical data collection tools and as reflective instruments, reinforcing their understanding of cultural literacy, identity, and the significance of community. All participants received certificates in recognition of their involvement.
We extend our sincere thanks to every child, coach, expert, and parent who contributed to the implementation of the “Together We Rise” case study. The project’s detailed findings will be published in a forthcoming scientific article.
To evaluate the effectiveness of arts-based education and determine its relevance and economic benefits, the “Horizon Europe” programme project “The Cultural Literacies’ Value in Europe” envisages implementing four case studies. These will involve cooperation between researchers from Daugavpils University and both formal and informal education establishments, as well as consultations with the project’s official partners from European universities and cultural institutions. Cooperation with the cultural industries adds value to the project, while the involvement of children and youth in project activities will enhance their cultural literacy, foster personal development, encourage positive engagement, and promote tolerance, equality, and inclusion within the cultural space of Latvia and Europe.
