During the 2026 Researchers’ Night at Daugavpils University, with approximately 2,900 attendees, an interactive activity titled “What does data tell us about sustainability?” was offered as part of the Erasmus+ “Dealing with Data in School” project (Project No. KA220MV2536355732).

Every day, we make multiple decisions that affect our environment, resource consumption and our quality of life. But are we always aware of the impact these decisions make? Data helps answer many related questions, allowing us not only to describe the current situation, but also to identify trends and understand future challenges. The goal of the “What does data tell us about sustainability?” activity was to encourage interest in data use in everyday life and to demonstrate how statistical information can help us better understand the processes of sustainable development.

During the interactive activity, the participants were invited to analyse and compare data on various aspects of sustainability, focusing on resource consumption, environmental changes and sustainable development trends in Latvia and other countries around the world. By comparing various indicators, the participants had the opportunity to spot patterns, draw conclusions and reflect on what the numbers reveal about our lifestyles. The activity was organized at Daugavpils University by Inna Samuilika, Liene Briede, Anete Šenfelde and Olga Kozlovska as part of the Erasmus+ “DealDat@School” project.
