From 29 June to 1 July 2026, EDULEARN 2026: 18th Annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies took place in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Each year, the conference brings together more than 800 participants: researchers, educators, and other education professionals from around the world to discuss current developments and challenges in education, including digital transformation, the use of technology in teaching and learning, online education, and the role of artificial intelligence in education.
At the conference, Liene Briede, researcher at the UNESCO Chair at Daugavpils University, presented the study “Digital Transformation Readiness in Latvian Mathematics Curricula”, developed in collaboration with co-authors Inna Samuilika and Olga Kozlovska. The study examines Latvian mathematics curricula at the primary and secondary education levels, with particular attention to data literacy. The findings indicate that mathematics curricula in Latvia gradually foster competencies related to digital transformation, particularly at the secondary education level. At the same time, the study found that the curricula contain no explicit references to artificial intelligence, big data, or data science. These findings suggest that stronger integration of these areas into mathematics curricula would be beneficial in the future.

The study presented at the conference was carried out within the Daugavpils University research project “Alignment of Latvian STEM Curricula with Digital Transformation Goals: Analysis and Recommendations” (Project No. 14-95/2026/2).
