On April 27, 2026, an online seminar of the Erasmus+ project Dealing with Data in School (project agreement No. KA220-MV-25-36-355732) was held, bringing together 42 participants, including teachers, school administrators, university representatives, parents, and other interested stakeholders.

During the seminar, participants were introduced to the project’s objectives and planned activities, which focus on improving the quality of mathematics education by promoting data literacy, probabilistic thinking, and the development of students’ critical thinking skills.

Particular attention was given to discussions on approaches to teaching mathematics in schools. Participants highlighted the importance of linking mathematics more closely to students’ everyday experiences and to topics that are meaningful and understandable to them. It was emphasized that working with real-life situations and data enables students to better understand the relevance and application of mathematics.

Throughout the discussions, participants shared their experiences and provided recommendations for the development of teaching materials, stressing that the learning process should be closely connected to real-life contexts and students’ own experiences.

The project is implemented within the Erasmus+ programme by an international consortium of partners: Daugavpils University (Latvia), the University of Greifswald (Germany), and the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (Czech Republic).

The seminar demonstrated strong interest in innovative teaching approaches and highlighted the need to continue developing mathematics education by making it more relevant and accessible to students.
