The acting dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Daugavpils University, Dr. Mārīte Kravale-Pauliņa, participated in the forum “I See Sustainability! In Nature, Culture, Myself,” which took place on December 15 at the Riga Technical University Science and Innovation Centre. The event was organized by the UNESCO National Commission of Latvia with the support of the Ministry of Science. The program included inspiring presentations, panel discussions, and workshops.

The forum brought together a wide range of representatives from education, culture, politics, and civil society to stimulate discussion on the role of education in promoting sustainable development. The aim of the forum was to strengthen understanding of sustainable development by combining environmental, cultural, and personal perspectives, as well as to promote cross-sectoral cooperation, which was achieved through a diverse and content-rich program.

During the panel discussion, which included policymakers, youth representatives, representatives of higher education institutions, non-governmental organizations, and education professionals, the main obstacles and opportunities for the development of sustainable education were analysed. Throughout the discussion, it was emphasized that there are no insurmountable barriers to sustainable development; rather, clear goal-setting, action, and leadership are essential.

In the second part of the forum, participants actively engaged in the parallel workshops “Artificial Intelligence: Ethics and Safety in Education” and “Entrepreneurship as a Driver of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.” At the conclusion of the forum, the results of the educational initiative “I See Sustainability!” were presented, and gratitude was expressed to all participants for their active involvement, ideas, and contributions to the development of sustainability.
