Daugavpils University invites doctoral students, academic staff, and all interested parties to participate in the Doctoral School lecture “Artificial Intelligence in Science and Research: Tools, Ethics, and Transparency”, which will take place on 12 December 2025 at 14:00 online via Zoom.
The lecture will be delivered by Matthew “Joe” Walther – a scholarship recipient of the English Language Fellow Program and an education specialist with more than 25 years of international experience in teaching English.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the research landscape, influencing both data analysis and the development of scientific texts. During this 90-minute lecture, participants will explore legitimate applications of artificial intelligence in the natural and social sciences, with a focus on how researchers use AI for data processing, modeling complex systems, and improving scholarly communication.
Participants will examine real examples from biology, medicine, and the social sciences, analysing how AI supports both quantitative and qualitative inquiry. The lecture will also address current transparency standards, including how to document and cite AI involvement in publications in accordance with academic integrity requirements.
By the end of the lecture, participants will gain a clear understanding of how to responsibly integrate artificial intelligence into their own research processes while enhancing efficiency, quality, and scientific accuracy.
