On November 10, 2025, Professor Anita Pipere from the Daugavpils University Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences led an online course “Scientific Writing Skills” for doctoral students of the OpenEU alliance universities. The course brought together participants from the Hellenic Open University (Greece), Open Universiteit (Netherlands), and Daugavpils University.
The course equipped doctoral students with essential knowledge and skills in scientific writing, emphasizing structure, use of evidence, and adherence to academic ethics. At the beginning of the session, Professor introduced the nature and purpose of scientific writing and explored the key competencies required for effective academic communication at the doctoral level. Students learned about the structure and types of scientific papers, developed a clear and precise writing style, and practiced how to use and cite sources effectively. A practical assignment allowed them to apply their knowledge, refine their writing skills through collaboration, and receive constructive feedback from the lecturer.
As part of the Scientific and transferable skills training within the OpenEU project, each partner university in the alliance offers courses for doctoral students aimed at enhancing collaboration skills, developing leadership, improving presentation and writing abilities, and exploring the latest opportunities offered by artificial intelligence. In the long term, these initiatives strengthen career development prospects for doctoral students across all scientific disciplines. The project also offers Daugavpils University doctoral students the opportunity to develop new skills free of charge through courses taught by lecturers from partner universities.
