On 14 November 2025 at 14:00 (EET), the Doctoral School of Daugavpils University will host an online lecture “Presenting Yourself and Your Research with Impact: Communicating Across Disciplines”, open to all DU doctoral students, academic staff, and other interested participants.
Lecturer:
Matthew “Joe” Walther – a fellow of the English Language Fellow Program, an education specialist with over 25 years of international experience in teaching English, including work with academics, students, and professionals across various countries.
Effective researchers are also skilled communicators. This 90-minute lecture explores how to present research clearly, confidently, and persuasively to academic and interdisciplinary audiences. It examines what makes a presentation memorable—from visual design and narrative structure to voice, presence, and professional self-presentation. The session highlights key differences between hard science and social science approaches to research communication, including how each discipline structures evidence and engages audiences. Drawing on examples from international academic contexts, it offers practical strategies for preparing conference presentations, managing online delivery, and responding to questions. By the end of the session, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to present both their research and themselves with credibility and impact.
Lecture language: English
