In September 2025, graduates of the academic master study programme “History” received awards in Latvian history from the Latvian Academic Organization in Sweden for their master’s theses.

We are especially pleased that both studies are dedicated to the history of Latgale in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Aleksandrs Šehordanovs was awarded for his thesis “Social Conditions of Employees of Rēzekne Industrial Enterprises (1964–1985)”, and Vitālijs Gagunovs received an award for his thesis “Funeral Traditions of Old Believers and the Rēzekne Cemetery Parish Graveyard in the 19th–20th Century”. We congratulate the young researchers on their first success! Both theses were supervised by Maija Grizāne, researcher and assistant professor at the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences.
